Atlanta, GA (February 20, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal bicycle accident that took place on a roadway in Atlanta on Monday, February 20, at an unknown time.
According to Atlanta Police, the accident happened on Evans Mill Road around the area of I-20. Police claim that an elderly man was traveling on a bicycle in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those with injuries. The elderly bicyclist, who has since been identified as a 61-year-old man, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the collision.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for some time. This led to delays until police fully cleared the scene.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the collision continues. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.
We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim who lost his life in this accident.
Bicycle Accidents in Georgia
Bicycle accidents are known for being some of the most severe accidents that take place on our roads in Georgia each year. This is due to the fact that bicyclists have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. Between 2015 and 2019, it was reported that approximately 24 bicyclists lost their lives in Georgia bicycle accidents annually in the state. Even though these accidents are not as common as others that take place within the state, they tend to be some of the most severe and life-altering. If you have lost someone you love in a bicycle crash, you should speak with a dedicated attorney who has handled these types of claims in the past.
