Savannah, GA (September 1, 2021) – Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, a three-vehicle crash occurred on a highway in Savannah.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-16 around the area of Dean Forest Road. A distracted driver was in a sedan when the driver lost control and ran into the back of a stopped van. The impact was so forceful that the van then slammed into the pickup truck in front of it.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. Three victims had to be extricated from their vehicles. A total of eight people were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their injuries included gashes to the head, broken necks, internal bleeding, and more.
The driver who was distracted has since been cited for driving with an expired tag, following too closely, and driving distracted.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
